Adding backgrounds
In the ordering software and the Web shop you can use a background colour or one of your own image files as a background in many photo products. The Photo App does not offer a selection of background colours, your image is automatically added as a background image.

Adding Text
For technical reasons, there are only a limited number of selectable fonts available in the Web shop design function and in the Photo App.
We recommend using our ordering software for design purposes. The ordering software offers more design options than the Web shop and the Photo App. For example, when you use the ordering software, you can use the fonts installed on your PC for design purposes.
Alternatively, you can use an image editing program of your choice to add text to your image files. The image file should be saved as a JPG file in the sRGB colour space.

Please note:
If you open a stored product file on another PC on which the fonts you used are not installed, the ordering software displays an error message and automatically selects an alternative font. This may change the layout of the created text box.

Black and white photos
Please convert the photo to black and white using an editing software, such as Adobe Photoshop, before placing the order. You can upload the modified photo and complete your order afterwards.The print is processed on colour paper, not special monochrome paper. Due to this, photos with a strong contrast and/or ordered with optimization may show a colour cast. It may occur that the photo becomes greenish.

We recommend using a sepia style filter for avoiding such colour casts with monochrome photos. In order to achieve "real" monochrome photos without any colour casts the modification with sepia filters is unsuitable, as sepia will make the photos appear somewhat nostalgic (brownish). For avoiding colour casts with monochrome photos, many customers order photo prints with sepia filtered colours.

It is important to disable the automatic optimization for a good exposure of the print in such cases.

Book spine text box
The book spine of the following products can be configured in the ordering software:
- Real photo book
- Hardcover

With themed photo books, there is usually an empty text box on the spine of the book. With photo books that are created freely or using the wizard, the book spine has no text box in the current ordering software. You can either assign a page template to the cover or drop a text box on the spine of the book yourself. Text boxes can be turned by 360°.

Note: Not all page templates have a book spine text box.

Calendar events
When designing online in the Web shop, you can add up to 3 lines of text on each calendar page. When using our ordering software, you have more design options. Here, for example, you can add unlimited text boxes on each page.
In the ordering software, you can create your own event headings and manage these using different colours. Using the ordering software, you can , for example, also save you shopping basket for later orders.

Calendar start month
You can choose which month you wish the calendar to start on. For example, if you want your calendar to start on 1 June it will end on 31 May of the following year.

Can I add backgrounds / clipart
Of course there is the possibility to download other backgrounds and clipart. The option to download can be found at the editor (on the left) of our software. Have a look under the header "background" and "effect" -> "clip art". The option to download please refer to our ordering software, the editor, on the left side, under the headings "Background" and "effect" -> "Clip Art". Please click "Download more..." and select the desired effects and backgrounds.

Cancellation
It is unfortunately not possible to cancel an order after it has been placed.
Processing and production commences immediately and is fully automated after the order is received to ensure a prompt delivery.

In this respect, please note the following point from our terms and conditions:
§5 Revocation
After sending the order, cancellation of the order is no longer possible. A subsequent revocation is excluded.
If the delivered goods have defects, the customer must inform Medion of these defects immediately with an exact description of the defects. In the case of defects in the delivered goods that are attributable to Medion, Medion is obligated to make a replacement delivery. If Medion does not comply with this obligation or the replacement delivery fails, the customer may withdraw from the purchase contract or demand a reduction of the purchase price.

Canvas colour quality
Modern inks and dyes have a very high resistance to light. This guarantees a long colour fastness of the prints. However, minor colour changes are possible due to long-term exposure to light.

Changing E-Mail
To change your e-mail or contact information please log into your account before placing the order and go to "personal data".
If you are using our free ordering software, you can change your personal data during the order process.

Changing the delivery address
It is not possible to change the delivery adress once the order has been submitted.

You can enter an alternative delivery adress during the ordering process but once the order has been submitted the address can not be changed.

Changing the order quantity
You can set the required number of a product in the shopping basket.

When you place your product in the shopping basket, the number will be automatically set to one. You can use the selection box in the shopping basket to increase the number. You do not have to add the product to the shopping basket multiple times.

Changing the properties of the photo book
You can change the photo book properties (such as the type of binding) in our current ordering software.

Please keep in mind that you cannot switch between all products/binding types. A change of the aspect ratio is not possible, for example.

Clipart
We constantly strive to design and provide new clipart for you. You can also use your own clipart. Please note that settings for a transparent colour are not considered or set as a colour during production. We recommend that you remove the transparent setting of the image file prior to use or convert any PNG or GIF files to JPG format.

Collage
In the Web shop design, you can add multiple image files to some products (e.g. t-shirts or mugs). Using our ordering software, you have more design options.
In the ordering software, you can add any number of image files to all products (except photo prints/posters) and, for instance, create a CD/DVD order or save the shopping basket for reordering/further processing. It is not possible to save the shopping basket in the Web shop. If you want to create a collage for photo prints or posters, put together the collage with a photo editing program of your choice and save the collage as a new image file. The image file should be saved as a JPG file in the sRGB colour space.

Cropping
The Aspect Ratio of Your Photos

The aspect ratio of a photograph will affect the size that your prints are produced to; this is because different print sizes have different aspect ratios, this meaning a 6”x4” print can’t just be enlarged to a 6"x4.5" print.

Please be aware that orders affected by aspect ratio are not a printing error.

For example if you order a 10x15cm print and the aspect ratio of your photo is 2:3, you will receive a print that matches that size. If however the aspect ratio is 3:4, the print becomes 10x13cm. This is a small difference but when preserving your memories we want this to be printed as accurately as possible for you.
Most smartphones and digital cameras have an aspect ratio of 4:3. This means that your image will be slightly squarer shaped compared to a standard 4x6 print. So when ordering these types of photos, it is likely that cropping will take place during production.
Digital SLR cameras will generally capture a photo in a 3:2 aspect ratio. This is the same as 35mm film negative, which is brilliant for 4x6 printing. This means that very little or in some cases no cropping would be involved.


This explains why the dimensions of the print may vary:

You can order your prints by selecting either of the options above. This information pack can also be found on the free desktop software using the “Help” button.
Aspect Ratio 2:3

The photos you order via the Photo Service are adjusted automatically to the paper size. If the aspect ratio of your image file is not 2:3, the photo will be enlarged automatically until there are no edges. This means that a part of the image will be cropped off (scissors icon: Edit image section).
To prevent white edges from occurring during the exposure, the image section is enlarged by up to three percent before exposure (over-projection). Aspect Ratio 3:4

The photos you order via the Photo Service are adjusted automatically to the paper size. If the aspect ratio of your image file is not 3:4, the photo will be enlarged automatically until there are no edges. This means that a part of the image will be cropped off (scissors icon: Edit image section).

There is no cropping option available for panorama posters. These are always supplied in the ratio 1:3. If the aspect ratio of your image file does not match the aspect ratio of the chosen paper, the image section will be automatically set so that there are no white edges. This means that a part of the image will be cropped off.

Alternatively, we recommend using our ordering software. This does not require Java.

Cutting tolerance
Please consider that a certain cutting tolerance has to be accounted for. This tolerance can be up to 5mm on the long side.

Data directory
You can change the target directory in the ordering software via “Settings” -> “Directory”.

Your personal program settings (e.g. Calendar appointment lists, templates, shopping baskets) are saved in the data directory.

Design
You can select from many different design templates for creating your photo product. These templates are already incorporated in the software and our website when you create your order. When available, clicking on “Add design template” will allow you to select a relevant template from the various themes accessible from the drop down menus.

Discounts
It is not possible to give discounts, even with larger orders or business orders.
Our prices are very competitive and unfortunately it is not possible to grant any further discounts.

Express delivery service
We do not offer express shipping at present. All incoming orders are processed consecutively. Treating single orders preferentially is unfortunately not possible due to organisational considerations.

Factory settings
Proceed as follows to reset the ordering software:

--> In the menu bar (upper left) click on the “?” Icon (Windows) or on “Help” (MAC).
--> Click on “Reset application”.

File formats
You can use the following image file formats for your order in the Web shop and in the ordering software:
JPG, BMP, GIF, JP2, PCX, PICT, PNG, TGA and TIF

You can use the formats JPG and PNG in the Photo App.

Generally, document file formats (e.g. DOC, PDF) are not supported.

Please remove special ICC colour profiles from your image files with a photo editing program of your choice and save your images without special colour profiles in the sRGB colour space. Do not save the image files using the option progressive** or with extreme compression. Image files up to 10 MB can be processed.

**Progressive saving is used for image files on the Internet to enable a faster display.

Firewall
If a firewall is installed on your system, it can be deactivated during the order. Otherwise internet access of the software has to be enabled. Port 433 will then have to be unblocked in the firewall.

Forgotten password
You can request a new password to be sent to your email address by clicking on "I have forgotten my password" which is located at the login page.
Please enter the e-mail adress that was used when registering and then click on "Send".

Glossy/matt finish
Mixing photos with different paper surfaces (glossy or matt) is not possible within a single order for technical reasons.
After you have uploaded your photos, you have the option to choose between glossy and matt via the corresponding button. If you would like photos in both matt and shiny finishes, you will have to make two separate orders. In this case, the shipping costs for each order will be charged separately.
In our ordering software you will find the option for selecting the paper surface after you have clicked “ORDER” within the shopping basket and subsequently “Online order wizard” appears.

How can I create a desk calendar?
Upon selecting the calendar option on both the website and software, you will be presented with a choice of calendar sizes and formats, ranging from Wall Calendars, Year Planners and Table Calendars. Just select your chosen style and follow the instructions on screen to design and plan the product.
You can choose between creating the product "online" on our website or "offline" with our order software. We recommend using the software because products you created can be saved and opened again for further editing.

Internet connection
Please note that with an online order a permanent internet connection will be established and must be maintained at all times. The upload speed depends on different criteria, file size, connection speed and server capacity which cause the upload time to vary. The following table is a guide for the average upload times. Invoice
If you specify a different delivery address, the invoice will not be included in the delivery. In this case, the invoice is sent as a PDF attachment to the confirmation e-mail you receive after we receive your order. A separate invoice will not be sent by post. If you have not received an order confirmation e-mail, please check in the spam folder of your e-mail account.

The goods recipient receives a delivery note along with the order. This contains a list of the ordered products without prices.

Masks/frames
In the ordering software, you can add either a frame or a mask to a picture box. With frames, you can set the frame colour and add a shadow.
There are also a number of predefined frames available. The masks are artistically prefabricated frames. We are always working to create new masks and make them available for you.
The option to download additional masks can be found in the ordering software, in the editor, on the left side, under the heading “Effects”-> “Masks”. Please click the “Download more...” button.

Order confirmation
Please check the spam assessment settings of your e-mail client if you did not receive our confirmation of order yet. We have noticed lately that our e-mails are moved increasingly often to spam folders by the e-mail clients.

Order status
You can check the status of online orders via our website. Go to the section “Order status” and enter your customer number and the order number. If you do not have this information to hand, log in on the home page. After logging in, you can call up your personal area. Here you can see the current status of your online orders under “Orders/Editions” at any time.
Alternatively, you can call up an overview of your orders in the ordering software via the footer function “Order history”.

Note: Please note that after a successful order it can take several hours before your order appears in the respective overview. If your order has still not appeared in the overview after 24 hours, please get in contact with us via the contact form before placing a new order, to avoid a possible double order.

Ordering different products
For technical reasons, not all products can be ordered in the Web shop. For some products (such as photo books), you will need our free ordering software which you can download in the service area.
We recommend that you always use the latest version of our ordering software for all products. The software offers you for example more design options than the Web shop and you can also save the products you design for subsequent orders. It is not possible to save products in the Web shop.

Ordering photo prints/posters
You can choose whether to order your photo prints/posters via the Web shop or with our ordering software.
In the Photo App and in the Web shop no storage of the shopping basket is possible.

In the Photo App you can order photo prints of the images taken in the last four weeks or after a specific date via the vault function.

For larger orders, we recommend using our ordering software.

Over-projection
To prevent white edges from occurring during exposure of images and posters, the image section is enlarged by up to three percent before exposure.
When preparing your image file, you should therefore bear in mind that up to three percent of the image/image section will be cropped and thus not visible on the print. This can be particularly important, for example, if there is lettering on the edge of the picture.

Panoramic poster
A camera panorama function and our panoramic poster formats are almost identical names for different things. In the camera panorama function, each camera manufacturer uses its own approach. Our panoramic poster formats are based on an aspect ratio of 1:3.

If the aspect ratio of your image file is not 1:3, the photo will be enlarged automatically until there are no edges. This means that a part of the image will be cropped off.
To prevent white edges from occurring during the exposure, the image section is enlarged by up to three percent before exposure (over-projection).

For all online ordering methods (ordering software, Photo App and Web shop) you can select the desired image area in the crop option. It is not necessary to change the aspect ratio of the image file with an image editing program.

Production dimensions:
Panorama poster 20 format = approx. 20x60 cm
Panorama poster 30 format = approx. 30x90 cm
Panorama poster 40 format = approx. 40x120 cm
Panorama poster 50 format = approx. 50x150 cm

Information about over-projection:
When preparing your image file, you should bear in mind that up to three percent of the image/image section will be cropped and thus not visible on the print. This can be particularly important, for example, if there is lettering on the edge of the picture.

Photographic paper
Our photo prints are made on Kodak Royal photo paper. For posters, we use premium photo paper. You can choose between a gloss and a matt surface. A joint order of different surfaces is currently not possible.

The grammage of the photo prints is approx. 265 g/m² for the 9 to 13 format. From the 20 format upwards, this is approx. 233 g/m².

Pickup at the ALDI store
It is not possible to place at or to pickup an order from your local ALDI store. This is due to administrative reasons. The order can only be shipped to the entered delivery adress.

Picture box editing
Ordering software:
With a left-click you can switch between picture editing mode and the picture box. You can only move the box and change its size in picture box editing mode.
You are in picture box editing mode when the green dot for turning the box is displayed. If the green dot is not displayed, you are in picture editing mode. Simply click once with the left mouse button on the image to switch to picture box editing mode.

Tips:
You can use the “Fit” button to adjust the picture box to fit the image.
Hold down the SHIFT key to change the picture box size proportionally.

Photo App:
Your selected image is automatically added as a background image as soon you place it in the empty print area. If the aspect ratio of your image file does not correspond to the aspect ratio of the selected photo product, you can move the image to place the desired image section for all products except photo prints in the printing area. If you place a picture on the background image, you can turn this by using the multi touch feature and change the size proportionally.

Web shop:
You can change the selected picture box in the product editor by using the handles on the edge of the picture box. Double click on the picture box to navigate to the picture cropping mode.

Tip:
First select the desired section of the image in picture cropping mode and then use the corner handles of the picture box in the editor to resize the image proportionally.

Picture quality
We can handle files up to a maximum resolution of 5333x8000 pixels and up to 10 MB in size. Please use only files without special ICC colour profiles in the sRGB colour space! Please remove special ICC colour profiles from your image files with a photo editing program of your choice and save your images without embedded colour profiles in the sRGB colour space. Do not save the image files using the option progressive** or with extreme compression.

**Progressive saving is used for image files on the Internet to enable a faster display.

Please note that orders with a single format (product) are generally manufactured more quickly than mixed orders with several formats (products). The finished photos and other photo items are sent to a specified delivery address.

Proportionally resize the picture box
You can enlarge or reduce a picture box with constant aspect ratio by pressing down the SHIFT button while changing the size of the box.

Red-eye correction
There is a manual red-eye correction function in the image editing functions of our current ordering software. When ordering with image optimisation, red eyes are corrected automatically (as far as technically possible) and brightness, contrast and the colour of the image are adjusted.

Registration
For online orders, you will need to register a user name and a billing address.
Please note that certain special characters (e.g. Umlauts, spaces, etc.) may not be used for the user name and password.
If you want to delete your registration, log in using your user name in the web shop and select “Delete access” in the personal area. It is not possible to change a user name. To do so, delete your access in the personal area and re-register with the desired user name.

Removing empty photo book pages
Ordering software:
Only themed photo books have a fixed number of pages that cannot be changed.
With photo books that are created freely or using the wizard, you can select the desired number of pages in the design editor.
Single pages (e.g. empty or not designed pages) cannot be removed from the photo book. You can only select a fixed number of pages (e.g. 24, 32 or 40 pages). If you change the number of pages from 32 to 24, for instance, 8 pages will be removed at the end or at the current position in the photo book, depending on what you select.

Photo App:
With the Mini Book Easy the number of pages is predetermined (30 pages) and cannot be changed.

Web shop:
You can set the desired number of pages in the design editor. Single pages (e.g. empty or not designed pages) cannot be removed from the photo book. You can only select a fixed number of pages (e.g. 24, 32 or 40 pages). If you change the number of pages from 32 to 24, for instance, 8 pages will be removed at the end of the photo book.

Reordering
A repeat order by e-mail or via our telephone customer service is generally not possible.

We recommend using our ordering software. With the software, you can save your shopping basket separately. It is not possible to store the shopping basket for later reordering in the Web shop or the Photo App.

Rolls of film
We do not offer development of roll film. If you require this, please consult a specialist photo retailer. We manufacture exclusively using photographic material that has already been digitised (image files).

Save CPR file
If you save a product as a back-up (CPR file)in the ordering software, you will receive the following message:
A copy of your project was saved. To order the project, click on “Add to basket”.

Products in the shopping basket remain in there even after the software is closed. After starting the software, go directly to your shopping basket to continue working on your product.

Generally, you only need to add the back-up copy to the shopping basket again in the following cases:
– You have deleted the shopping basket product
– You have reset the software to the factory settings by using the “Application reset” function.
– During a software update, you have selected the option not to retain your personal data during uninstallation of the software.

To prevent data loss, we recommend that you create back-up copies of all your shopping basket products before carrying out any software update.

Scanned photos
You can use scanned photos for your order. We recommend scanning the photos with a resolution of 300 dpi. The photo file should be saved as JPG file.

Shooting date
So-called EXIF data is embedded in the image files. These contain information about the camera and record. For technical reasons it is not possible to add EXIF data to the motif with the production of photographic prints / posters. Please use either the appropriate camera setting or a software of your choice.
Embedding EXIF ​​data is supported by some image editing software. Many digital cameras support the direct insertion of the shooting date on the motif.

Shopping basket
Ordering software:
All of the products in the shopping basket remain stored in the shopping basket as long as the shopping basket products are not deleted or the software is not reset to the factory defaults. Customisable products can be taken from your shopping basket for further editing.

Photo App:
All of the products in the shopping basket will remain there until the order is placed. Products in the shopping basket cannot be processed any further.

Web shop:
All of the products in the shopping basket will remain there until the order is placed provided that the browser session ID has not expired. Customisable products can be taken from your shopping basket for further editing.

The session ID is used to identify your computer and thus the allocation of all uploaded files. The session ID is valid for approximately 45 minutes and is reset with each user interaction.

If you close all browser instances (all browser windows) before placing your order, the products in the shopping basket will be lost.

Slides or negative films
We do not offer a digitisation service for slides/negatives. If you require this, please consult a specialist photo retailer.

You can buy suitable digitisation devices (slide scanners or a scanner with a negative tray) from a PC or photo retailer and digitise (scan) your pictures yourself.

We recommend scanning your images at 300 dpi (at least ). Save the image file preferably as a JPG file with a low compression rate. If you compress the image files too much, this can negatively affect the quality.

Please note that you can use only images in the sRGB colour space for orders. Save your files without special ICC colour profiles in the sRGB colour space. Do not save the image files using the option progressive** or with extreme compression. Image files up to 10 MB can be processed.

**Progressive saving is used for image files on the Internet to enable a faster display.

Standard/High-gloss photo book
If photo books have a high-gloss surface, the inside pages are finished with a high-gloss lacquer. This makes the colours appear even more radiant.

Themed book page numbers
The page number selection box is only available in the ordering software for photo books that are created freely or using the wizard in the design editor. Themed photo books have a fixed number of pages that cannot be changed.

Upload times
The transmission of your order may vary depending on the time of day, server load and Internet connection. Please use the following example table as a guide for the transmission time.

Uploading your order
You can access the files stored on your computer and select the images that you would like to have processed as photo prints. The order can be placed directly on our website. Alternatively you can use the Photo Service software that can be downloaded from http://www.aldiphotos.ie/software/ The following types of file formats are supported and can be uploaded: BMP, JPEG, PNG, PSD and TIF.

What is the estimated delivery time?
Processing of canvas prints takes about 5-7 working days after of the order has been received. Mixed orders containing different canvas sizes may take up to 7 working days for processing. Please note that we do not have any influence on the delivery time of your consignment.
Processing will commence as soon as your order has been received. We seek to have your order ready for consignment as soon as possible. Handling time may vary due to the scope of the order.

Why did I not retrieve my CD?
Due to logistical and administrative reasons the CDs are not send back to the customers.
The CDs are destroyed after the data has been checked and processed.

Zip archives
In the Web shop you can upload image files and zip archives. The archive must not exceed a total size of 100 MB. The individual image files should be no larger than 10 MB.
You cannot add zip archives in the Photo App or the ordering software. Please unzip the archive and then add the images.
